I’ve been learning dance since I was little, and I have been teaching aerobic exercise for over 20 years now.

First time I tried Pilates was in 2000, when I attended the IDEA World Fitness Convention in the US. I realized that it could help with my hunched back and lower back aches, so I began this path of studying Pilates. In 2004, I was invited to teach Pilates at a rehabilitation clinic. The most common problems the patients had at the clinic were disorders like frozen shoulder, herniated disc, scoliosis, and joint degeneration. In order to really help them, I decided I needed to have a complete understanding of Pilates. That is why in 2005 I went to Canada to study Stott Pilates and became a certified teacher under the Stott Pilates system (mat and equipment-based).

In the Stott Pilates training, we learned basic anatomy and cultivated our ability to evaluate student’s physical condition. With the guidance of rehabilitation doctors and physical therapists, I learned in the program how to accurately assess student’s pain and the corresponding body part and to provide students with the needed rehabilitation exercises to improve their symptoms.
Seeing the changes in the student’s physical condition is the best reward for me and it is also my goal in teaching. That is the reason I start each class by surveying the student’s physical condition to see if there are problems such as tight muscles, pains or injuries. I would then adjust what I would teach for that class to fit student’s need. Once their discomfort has improved after practicing for some time, I would then change the class program accordingly. Through this type of interactive teaching method, I can really help the students solve their physical problems.

I will continue to take related courses to deepen my professional knowledge to help students. Together, I hope we can all experience the wonders of Pilates!
