For days, Zoe has passed by and poked her head in SPACE’s front door, which was just situated down at the beginning of the alley near her home. Finally at the end of 2006, she gathered up enough courage and with a sense of curiosity, she nervously stepped into SPACE. From that day on, yoga became, for this housewife, a journey of discovery filled with surprising and amazing experiences.

Like most other yoga practitioners, after some time of searching and exploring, Zoe found a suitable practice for her: Ashtanga. Ever since then, practice became a part of her life, as natural as eating and sleeping. She loves the inner stillness and focus of each sweating moment of being present. This sense of settled ease and quietness was the portrayal of her every Mysore self-practice. And these precious experiences were from all the teachers she had encountered on her path of learning: Shirlyn Shih, Gladys Huang, Axl Chang, Adarsh Williams, Ethan Lee and Ann Huang. Each one of these teachers brought a different facet of yoga for her to experience.

The one who inspired her the most was her teacher trainer, Adarsh Williams. From this passionate teacher, she learned a lot of knowledge of anatomy and alignment. It made her realize that each body is unique and the practice and teaching should also have a wide range of freedom and flexibility. And similarly, shouldn’t our life off the mat be as free and flexible as well? In 2015, as fate would have it, Zoe went to the origin of Ashtanga, Mysore India. She was fortunate enough to study under Sharath and that experience solidified her practice. This pilgrimage opened up her view and saw how all the Ashtanga practitioners worldwide had this pure love and respect for the Ashtanga origin.

Zoe hopes to share her yoga experience and passion through her interaction in class. She likes to encourage each student to learn with an open and relaxed mind, starting from accepting our own body to everything about us as we are now. She feels we should go forward at our own pace to naturally explore and experience, allow the practice gradually become a part of life and a process of self exploration. All we need is to just wait and transformation will quietly and naturally happen.

Zoe is very happy that she took up the courage and walk through the front door of SPACE YOGA many years ago. Yoga has enriched her life, made it more exciting and content. Now she can gradually understand the author, Ms. Yang Jiang’s famous reflection on her one hundredth’s birthday: “ life’s most graceful scenery is the inner calm and composure.”
